Biography

 

João Pedro Marnoto, born in 1975 in Porto, Portugal, after completing his photography degree in the UK, received a grant from the Portuguese Centre of Photography to develop a personal project, a photography/video installation titled ”Pity vs Charity – Observation and Reflexion” (2001). Afterwards, he turned increasingly into documentary on long term projects, with his first book "The Rocks, People and Memories" published in 2007 dealing with the cultural and social heritage of a region in the heart of the Douro Wine region. Afterwards directed his first video documentary while conducting a photography workshop with children from urban and rural areas titled  ”Between Us”, and in 2010 finished a photography and video project titled “Faith in Donkeys”, conducted in partnership with an environmental organization AEPGA (Association for the Study and Protection of Asinine Cattle), with a Book+DVD published in February 2010. In 2014 had a solo exhibition at the Portuguese Centre of Photography with the work titled “Journey With No Route”, an intimate exercise of awareness and consciousness, where instinct reflects upon reason and vice-versa, addressing the representation of the human experience upon a reflection on contemporaneity. More recently presented the work at FESTimagem2015 – International Festival of Image at São Paulo, Brazil.

 

Between several presentations, took part in the collective project titled “Happiness” with photography intervention in waiting rooms of Oporto Hospitals and Medical centres as part of Oporto 2001 European Capital of Culture, selected for Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hannover/Germany (2008), participated in “This Day of Change” project developed by Courrier Japan (2009), showed his work at FotoWeekDC 2010 in Washington DC/USA, won the award for Best National Documentary at Cine'Eco Festival - International Environmental Film Festival/Seia; Portugal (2012) with the documentary “Faith in Donkeys”, and broadcast it at the national open TV channel SIC, and more recently won the “Gold Award” from Graphis Advertising Annual 2016 for the video “Luxury of Time” for Porto Ferreira Port Wine company, and was invited to participate in the publication of the 20 years commemorative book of Porto World Heritage edited by the Porto Municipality.

2006-2007

• Develops and publishes As Fragas, a Gente e a Memória/ The Rocks, the People and the Memories, in collaboration with writer and journalist Manuel Carvalho and commissioned by the local government of Alijó, addressing the cultural and historical heritage in the heart of the Douro region.

 

2007-2008

• In partnership with the municipalities of Alijó and Matosinhos, develops and publishes Entre Nós/Between Us, a video work in parallel with photography workshop for children, addressing the contrast between urban and rural Portugal from the perspective of the youngsters.

 

2008

• Selected and participation at Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hannover, Germany.

 

2008-…

• Beginning of regular collaboration with the New York Times.

 

2008-2010

• Collaboration with NGO Doctors of the World, Portuguese delegation.

 

2009

Participation in the project This Day of Change developed by Japanese Courrier, where 132 international photographers were invited to develop a work on the theme of "Hope", coinciding with the inauguration of the new U.S. president. Publication of book and traveling exhibition.

 

2010

• Participation in FotoWeekDC Festival in Washington, USA.

• Part of the presentation of Portuguese Photography Night at Kaunas Photo Festival, Lithuania.

 

2010-2011

• Develops and publishes a photography and Video project titled Fé nos Burros/Faith in Donkeys, commissioned by the local government of Alfandega da Fé and conducted in partnership with A.E.P.G.A. (Association for the Study and Protection of the Asinine Cattle).

 

2011

Eduarda Freitas - Escritora & Produtora

 

Eduarda gosta de ser um vale de palavras. Ou um contador de histórias. Ex-jornalista entre 2000 e 2014, para entidades como a SIC (TV de código aberto), o Expresso, a RTP e a ANTENA 1. Atualmente, ela está trabalhando no campo da produção cultural, mas sempre chamando a atenção para a escrita, seja qual for a forma e a forma, desde que venha de dentro. Por enquanto, ela está escrevendo um libreto para uma ópera, enquanto brinca com seu próprio filho.

Tiago Carvalho - Diretor de Fotografia & Editor

 

Tiago se formou em Som e Imagem e se especializou em cinematografia com mestrado em Cinema e Audiovisual. Sua paixão é criar imagens. Pintar com luz. Para criar humores. Para trazer a plena floração para a mente do diretor. Como diretor de fotografia, seu trabalho já apareceu em vários festivais internacionais de cinema, recebendo também diversos prêmios por curtas-metragens como “Naufrágio” (2010), “Artur” (2011), “Noite” (2013), os três dirigidos de Flávio Pires, mas também do longa-metragem “É o Amor” (2013), de João Canijo. Seu trabalho comercial também foi impulsionado por prêmios como o Bronze Bear em Cannes Lions para “Troll” (2014) em colaboração com This is Pafica e Loopa Studio.

André Macedo - Webdesign, Animação & Design Gráfico

André desenvolve projetos em um espectro dentro de design de impressão, design de tela, interação e design de interface. Às vezes ilustração e mais recentemente projeto de movimento. É licenciado em Design de Comunicação Visual no Porto, Portugal, e mestre em Design de Interface Multimédia, realizado em Barcelona, onde se mudou e trabalhou durante alguns anos. Atualmente, ele está interessado na interseção entre os domínios analógico e digital.

João Pedro Marnoto, born in 1975 in Porto, Portugal, after completing his photography degree in the UK, has devoted his work in over twenty years of professional practice within the grounds of documentary storytelling imagery, while using it towards a means of personal exploration. Both an excuse and a tool that allows him to live and explore meaningfully the many adventures and challenges that life offers, and extending his tools of trade from still into moving image, his approach intents to be an intimate exercise of awareness and consciousness, with his projects reflecting on issues of identity and the human condition within an environmental, sociological, personal and human perspective.
